JOHOR BARU: Paranormal researcher Syed Abdullah Hussein Al-Attas – better known as Uncle Seekers – has been arrested following several police reports lodged over comments he made about the Johor Sultan on his blog.
Syed Abdullah, 46, and his girlfriend, Siti Nadhirah Mohd Zain, 26, were detained by state police at the Senawang toll plaza at around 9.45pm on Wednesday.
Yesterday, they were brought to a magistrate’s court here where they were remanded for four days.
In the courtroom, Syed Abdullah told reporters that he and Siti Nadhirah were “fine”.
In jovial mood: Syed Abdullah giving the thumbs-up as he is being led to a magistrate’s court together with his girlfriend Siti Nadhirah. “This is the moment that I have been waiting for,’’ he said, adding that he would continue publishing more documents.
Syed Abdullah was ordered by the court to be sent to the Ayer Molek prison while Siti Nadhirah would be detained at the Johor Jaya lock-up.
Earlier, state CID deputy chief Asst Comm Mohd Ahkir Ishak said the case would be investigated under Section 8(1)(d) of the Official Secrets Act 1972.
“Both individuals have been arrested to assist investigation relating to the seven reports lodged against the Uncle Seekers blog.
“The case is being probed under the OSA as the blog includes various confidential government documents,” he said.
On Sunday, a group of 30 people had lodged a police report against Syed Abdullah for allegedly posting on his blog provocative, instigative and spiteful comments against the Sultan.
They also wanted the police to investigate the blogger for allegedly demeaning the Tunku Mahkota of Johor, state leaders and government officers on his blog at uncleseekers.blogspot.com.
Meanwhile, a group of 100 people lodged a report against the blogger at the Central Police Headquarters on Wednesday.
The group’s representative, How Kok Wei, 35, said they wanted the blog shut down.
“We are upset that the blog is still running despite several reports,” he said.
Checks by The Star showed that as at yesterday, the blog was still accessible.
