VVIPs pay courtesy call on Czech President
KUALA LUMPUR: Visiting Czech Republic President Vaclav Klaus and his wife Livia Klausova received courtesy calls from the King and Queen and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
The Czech President, who arrived on Wednesday for a five-day visit, is here at the invitation of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.
Earlier, Klaus and his delegation were accorded a state welcome at Parliament Square.
They were received by Tuanku Abdul Halim and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah.
Grand welcome: Tuanku Abdul Halim, Tuanku Hajah Haminah and Najib accompanying Klaus as he is introduced to Cabinet ministers at Parliament Square. Later, Klaus attended a roundtable discussion organised by the Asian Strategic and Leadership Institute at a hotel and launched the Malaysia-Czech Trade and Investment Forum.
Klaus and his delegation are scheduled to visit Sarawak today where they will attend a dinner hosted by Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng.
They are also scheduled to visit the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, the Annah Rais longhouse and attend a briefing on the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).
The Czech Republic is Malaysia’s 13th largest trading partner among European countries. Malaysia is the republic’s third largest trading partner among Asean countries.
Trade between the two countries increased from RM1.1bil in 2010 to RM1.7bil last year.
