A 21-YEAR-OLD woman was repeatedly raped and tortured by her husband's relatives and friends after her family failed to pay her dowry, reported Tamil Nesan.

The victim, Seema, who hails from Madhdevra village, was sold off for Rs50,000 (RM2,860).

Her ordeal started soon after she married Anand Kurmi in 2005, when both he and his relatives started harassing her for the Rs1lakh (RM5,720) dowry from her parents.

Seema was then forced to live among the livestock in her husband's village, where she was raped by one of his friends.

After informing her father of her plight, Seema was brought back home, where she subsequently lodged a report with the police.

Her husband and his relatives have since been arrested for assault, torture, rape and dowry harassment.
