Fire engine runs over motorcyclist
IPOH: A fire engine, en route to put out a burning pile of trash in Kampung Kuchai, knocked into a motorcycle near the Jalan Sultan Idris Shah-Jalan Raja Musa Aziz traffic junction and instantly killed the rider.
It is learnt the incident occurred at about 5.45pm yesterday after the Fire and Rescue Department received a call about a fire and rushed to the scene.
A witness, who wished to be known only as Ahmad, said vehicles along Jalan Sultan Idris Shah had tried to swerve their vehicles aside after hearing the siren of the fire engine.
“The fire engine was rushing to put out a fire as I could see black smoke rising nearby.
“As soon as the fire engine turned onto Jalan Raja Musa Aziz, it stopped about 10m away from a fallen motorcycle,” the 22-year-old said.
“The firemen then got off their vehicle and placed safety cones and covered the victim with a jacket.”
It is learnt the fire engine had grazed the motorcycle, ridden by Saadiah Yahya, 56, from Sungai Pari, causing her to fall before running over her.
Saadiah’s body was later sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital by police for post-mortem.
It is believed that the victim had died from serious head injuries.
