SHAH ALAM: PKR director of strategy Rafizi Ramli was charged in the Sessions Court on Wednesday with revealing confidential banking details linked to the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) scandal.

He pleaded not guilty to revealing details protected under the Banking and Financial Insitutions Act (Bafia) on secrecy.

Sessions Court judge Aslam Zainuddin allowed bail at RM15,000 with Nik Nazmi as the bailor.

Police arrested Rafizi early Wednesday and took him to court.

Former bank clerk Johari Mohamad also charged with abetting Rafizi at the same place and time.

Both face a maximum three years jail and maximum RM3mil fine, or both, upon conviction

He was also granted bail at RM15,000 with one surety.

Both cases were fixed for mention on Sept 10 and Aslam allowed a joint trial.

Rafizi was charged with having access to four customer profile documents pertaining to the balance summary of the National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd, the National Meat and Livestock Sdn Bhd, the Agroscience Industries Sdn Bhd and Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh Ismail (Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil's husband).

He was accused of exposing the said documents to media consultant Yusuf Abdul Alim and journalist Erle Martin Carvalho at the PKR headquarters in Merchant Square, Jalan Tropicana Selatan 1 on March 7.

Rafizi was investigated for contravening Bafia by releasing the banking details of the National Feedlot Corporation, owned by the then-Women Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil's husband Datuk Seri Mohamad Salleh Ismail and her children.

Bank Negara's investigation against Rafizi came about after NFC chairperson Mohamad Salleh's police complaint against him for 21 breaches for revealing private and confidential banking details that are protected under Part XIII of Bafia on secrecy and information.

When contacted, NFC declined to comment.

Rafizi arrived at Shah Alam Sessions Court at about 10am with his wife.

He appeared to be in good spirits and was smiling. "I'm alright," he said.

Also at the court were PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar, and Communications Director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and other party supporters.

Rafizi is represented by lawyer N. Surendran.
