Woman wakes up after 36 days in a coma

GEORGE TOWN: A woman who slipped into a coma after an accident has finally begun to move her fingers and blink her eyes 36 days later.

Her boyfriend, engineer Wayne Teo Wei Yong, 28, is overjoyed.

“I'm relieved as I feared the worst. She has a strong determination to fight for her life,” he said of Leong Siew Ming, 27.

Leong, who runs an online boutique business, sustained head injuries during a three vehicle pile-up in Simpang Ampat near Nibong Tebal on July 3.

The car she was driving rammed into a lorry after being hit by another car from behind.

Teo said Leong was transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to the normal ward on Wednesday after she regained consciousness.

“She is unable to speak and eat at this moment and is very weak. She can respond to hand gestures.

“I hope her condition improves quickly since we had planned to get married by the end of the year,” he said.
