BY EDMUND NGO

IPOH: The Government is trying to reduce the nation's debt by adjusting non-fixed spending in its management expenditure for the upcoming Budget 2013.

"The budget for development is set at RM49bil and is already complete. The Finance Ministry is now looking at the management expenditures and making the necessary adjustments," said Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah said in a press conference here on Saturday.

He added that the fixed-portion of the management expenditure which included civil servant salaries and pensions had been set.

"We are still trying various methods to reduce the nation's debt and stimulate the economy in order to help the rakyat as the prices of goods have increased,"he said.

He added that the nation's debt had reached 53% of the country's gross domestic product.
