Sighting of Syawal’s new moon on Aug 18
KUALA LUMPUR: The sighting of the month of Syawal's new moon to determine the beginning of Hari Raya will be on Saturday evening.
According to a statement from the office of the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal, the Conference of Rulers had agreed that the date for Hari Raya be fixed based on rukyah (sighting of the new moon) and hisab (astronomical calculations).
“The Keeper of the Rulers' Seal will announce the date over radio and television the same night,” said the statement. - Bernama
