Be thankful for peace and stability, Muslims told

KUCHING: Muslims in the country should be thankful for having peace, unity and a caring government, Housing Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said.

He said these three elements had enabled Muslims to observe the fasting month peacefully and at the same time, help the needy.

“If there is no peace in the country, we would not be able to do this. Look at what is happening in some Islamic countries like Libya, Egypt and Syria.

“But here in Malaysia, we enjoy peace and a good economy, which means we can make a living and reach out to the less fortunate,” he said at the presentation of raya contributions organised by Satok PBB at Masjid Darul Hana, Kampung Patingan here yesterday.

Johari also said Malaysia had caring leaders who were willing to meet the people on the ground.

For instance, he said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak made time in his busy schedule to come to the state for a breaking of fast ceremony on Friday night.

“This shows that he cares for the people and is willing to travel to the ground, even during the fasting month,” he said.

He called on Muslims to pray for peace and unity during the holy month of Ramadan so that development could continue.

“There are still many areas that we want to develop, not only in Satok but across the whole state,” the Satok assemblyman added.

Johari later presented duit raya and goodies to 240 recipients from 12 villages in the Satok area.

He also distributed bubur pedas and bubur lambuk to the residents.
