Highway traffic starts slowing down

KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic on several highways have been reported as slowing down due to larger numbers of city folk heading out to their hometowns for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

A PLUS Expressways Bhd spokesman told Bernama that traffic was slowing down in several areas heading North, including from Slim River to Sungkai, Tapah to Gopeng and Seberang Jaya to Bayan Lepas.

The slight congestion was also caused by a minor accident at KM 252.7 after the Menora Tunnel heading towards Kuala Kangsar, he said.

Traffic heading South was still smooth despite the increase in vehicles, he added.

Meanwhile, a Malaysian Highway Authority spokesman reported that traffic towards the East Coast was also beginning to slowdown, including from the Gombak Toll Plaza and the Genting Sempah exit to Karak.

According to him, traffic flow at several other highways was also slowing down, in particular at the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) from Bandar Sunway towards the Federal Highway.

"On the whole, the morning traffic situation is still under control," he concluded.

He said the Authority expected congestion to start after the Friday noon prayers as more people would start heading back to their hometowns. - Bernama
