Don’t be a coward, Khalid told

KLANG: Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim's non-acceptance of a debate with MCA Young Professionals Bureau chairman Datuk Chua Tee Yong on the Talam-gate controversy shows that he is a coward, state MCA liaison committee secretary Wong Koon Mun said.

Referring to Khalid's political secretary Faekah Husin's statement on Thursday, which alleged that Chua was no match for Khalid in a debate, Wong said the remark was “typical standard operating procedure” of the state government to divert attention from the main issue.

“I urge the chief of the Selangor administration to have some courage and face up to the debate challenge.

“The MB should not cower and run away simply to avoid any questions posed,” Wong said in a statement yesterday.

Faekah had suggested that a debate be held instead between Chua and PJ Utara MP Tony Pua, who had previously thrown a challenge to any party to debate on the RM1bil questionable deals involving Talam Corporation Bhd.

On July 3, Chua challenged the Selangor Government to explain how its exercise to recover a RM392mil debt from Talam ended in questionable deals worth over RM1bil.

The state government is said to have obtained a grant of RM392mil and acquired additional assets worth RM284mil from Talam bringing the total acquisition to RM676mil.

This RM676mil purchase of assets is said to be part of the RM1bil in questionable deals.
