Gerakan leader tells Guan Eng to be consistent
GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng should make his stand clear on the party-hopping issue and be consistent about it, said a Penang Gerakan leader.
Penang Gerakan legal and human rights bureau chief Baljit Singh (pic) said Lim had inconsistent views on the issue when two Barisan Nasional MPs in Sabah became Pakatan-friendly.
He said a Chinese daily had, on Aug 13, quoted Lim proposing that seats be vacated automatically when representatives quit their party to ensure voters had the right to choose their leaders.
“He was quoted as saying that the Federal Government should enact anti-defection laws so action could be taken against party-hoppers,” said Baljit here yesterday.
Ironically, Lim kept quiet when PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wanted to topple the Federal Government in 2008 by getting at least 30 Barisan MPs to cross over to Pakatan Rakyat, Baljit said.
On July 29, Beaufort MP Datuk Lajim Ukin announced his resignation as Umno supreme council member and as Beaufort division chief.
A day after Lajim’s move, Tuaran MP Datuk Wildfred Bumburing announced his decision to leave Barisan and launched Sabah Reform Movement.
