Get umbrella ready during Raya visits, just in case

KUCHING: Rainfall in the next couple of days will see folk holding onto their umbrellas when out visiting during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

But the rain can be a blessing in disguise because it will keep away the thick haze that is hovering over Kalimantan in Indonesia and raise the water levels in streams and rivers.

Forecasters at the Meteorological Department here said they were expecting rainfall throughout the state, mostly in the coastal areas in the morning as well as during the afternoon of Aidilfitri.

At night, showers would be over Miri and Kapit as well as other interior parts of the state.

Thunderstorms are also expected in some areas.

It is learnt that this was the normal weather pattern for the state around this year with southwesterly winds blowing at 20km to 30km per hour.

However, the state will still see some haze and its intensity would depend entirely on the amount of rainfall in the respective areas.

Out at sea, weather condition is expected to be fine and waves will reach 1.5m which is normal.

But if a thunderstorm should occur, waves could reach 3.5m and this is dangerous to fishing vessels.
