PM to launch blueprint for education reforms Sept 11, says DPM

PAGOH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will launch the blueprint for education reforms in the country on Sept 11, at the KLCC, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

According to Muhyiddin, the contents of the blueprint would comprise views, recommendations and feedback covering all aspects in efforts to enhance the education system in the country.

After the launch, the blueprint would be displayed for public viewing so as to gather feedback from all the relevant parties before fine-tuning the contents for tabling in the Cabinet for approval by year end.

"The implementation will be carried out in three stages over a period of 13 years with the first wave of changes taking place over a three-year period while the second and third over five-year periods.

"During the first wave of changes, priority will be given to aspects of education that can be easily implemented and which can make an impact without changing the entire structure or incur huge financial implications," he told reporters at his open house held at the Sri Pekembar Complex here on Monday.

Muhyiddin said the government hoped to elevate the country's education system to be among the best in the world by 2025.

The reforms would include English language, Mathematics, Science and specify the powers vested on the district education offices.

He added that English Literature would also be reintroduced into the system as per the Prime Minister's proposal, to enhance the use of the English language among students. - Bernama
