46 express bus drivers found positive for drugs under Op Selamat, says JPJ
KOTA BARU: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has nabbed 46 express bus drivers who tested positive for drugs under "Op Selamat" since it was launched on Aug 12, in conjunction with Aidilfitri this year.
JPJ director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan said the confirmation of the postive drugs tests were verified by the Agensi Anti Dadah Kebangsaan (AADK) on samples collected from 32 bus terminals throughout the country.
"We will wait for a detailed report from AADK before taking action against the offenders and drivers," he told Bernama when hosting an open house at his house in Kampung Guchil Bayam here on Monday.
"Op Selamat" that was launched on Aug 12, will end on Aug 26.
He added that the JPJ would continue to monitor all bus terminals in the country to ensure bus operators adhered to JPJ regulations and rules, so that the public's safety would not be compromised.
Solah said the RTD's decision to ban heavy vehicles from the main highways and roads on Aug 17 and 18 under 'Op Selamat' had been successful and hoped lorry owners would give their cooperation for a similar exercise on Aug 25 and 26, regarded as peak days for city folks to return from their respective home towns. - Bernama
