IPOH: Pisang goreng seller Rosfawani Hassan’s hopes for a joyous Hari Raya turned to ashes when her Kampung Baru Tambun home was razed to the ground.

The 38-year-old and her six children were left with only the clothes on their back after the noon fire, which took place on the first day of Raya.

“I was with my family at my parents’ house about 500m away when my nephew came running with news that my house was on fire.

“We rushed over in the hope of salvaging whatever we could, but the flames were too strong,” she said at the site yesterday.

“It took firefighters about 30 minutes to put out the blaze.

“We still do not know what caused the fire but I suspect that it was caused by a short-circuit.”

Among the belongings which the family lost in the fire were a new refrigerator, a television set, two laptops and personal documents.

“All I could salvage were several coins and a few pieces of clothing.

“I am now worried about what will happen when school reopens.

“My children’s uniforms and schoolbooks are all gone.”
