Video of footballer bashing up manager goes viral
PETALING JAYA: A CCTV footage from a hypermarket allegedly showing a Kelantan football player assaulting a customer has gone viral on YouTube.
The footage, recorded on Monday, shows defender Obinna Nwaneri punching company manager Faizaly Abdul Rais while they were queuing up at an express counter at the Shah Alam supermarket.
A timely intervention by one of Kelantan's coaching staff members prevented the situation from getting out of hand.
Online news portal Malaysian Digest, which managed to get the CCTV recording from the hypermarket, reported that Faizaly was queuing up after shopping for household goods, but when it came to his turn to pay, Nwaneri, 30, who was standing beside him insisted that he be served first.
“The man began insisting that he be allowed to pay first, and badgered the counter staff into settling his purchases first,” Faizaly was quoted in the report.
“I was appalled by his rude behaviour. Here we all were, queuing up like normal folk only for this man to ignore common courtesy and manners.”
Irked by the Nigerian's behaviour, Faizaly cursed him under his breath and Nwaneri demanded to know who Faizaly was cursing at.
“I replied very frankly that I was cursing him as he was being rude,” he said and before he knew it, Nwaneri punched him.
“I didn't have time to react. All I knew was the man had thrown a punch and I was reeling,” he said.
Faizaly has lodged a report at the Section 11 police station in Shah Alam.
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Zahedi Ayob confirmed the report but declined comment pending investigation.
