Ex-EO detainee who was shot dead not security firm owner, says Home Ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry confirmed that the man who was shot dead while waiting for his son outside a secondary school in Selayang Baru on Wednesday was not an owner of a security firm registered with the Ministry.

Secretary-general Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohamad Radzi, however, confirmed that the victim, K. Amchuthan, 41, was a former Emergency Ordinance (Public Order and Crime Prevention) 1969 detainee who was released on Feb 23.

"The police are investigating this case and we hope everyone can give them the space to carry on with it," he said in a statement here. The media had reported that Amchuthan, who was shot dead while waiting for his 16-year-old son, was the owner of a security firm.

The victim's wife, who was next to him, was also hurt in the incident as the shot was fired at close range. - Bernama
