Legoland's opening most-awaited event for Johoreans
JOHOR BARU: Legoland Malaysia, opening soon in Iskandar Malaysia here, will not only become the latest tourist attraction in Johor but provide business opportunities for the people in the state.
The opening of the theme park, jointly developed on a 31-hectare site in Medini North by the operation and management wing of Khazanah Nasional Bhd and Merlin Entertainments at a cost of RM720mil, is the most awaited event among people.
United Taxi Association of Johor Baharu (Gapet) treasurer Hadi Mohamed said the theme park, the first of its kind in Asia, would enhance the livelihood of taxi operators.
"Many passengers, especially from Singapore, have been asking about it and we personally can't wait for the official opening of the theme park on Sept 22," he said.
Eascost Adventure Travel and Tour Sdn Bhd managing director Liza Alip said Legoland would be another family-oriented tourist attraction to both domestic and foreign visitors.
"Prior to this, we can only promote beautiful islands, such as Tioman and its seafood, but now we have a new tourist icon to promote for family holidays," she said.
Aidah Abd Rahman, the marketing and communications manager of Thistle Hotel, on the other hand, said the hotel industry was also expecting a boost with the existence of the theme park in Iskandar Malaysia.
"The family-oriented theme park is also expected to increase the bookings of rooms especially during school holidays," she said.
