'Explosive' bust by Sarawak cops

KUCHING: A planned drug raid turned out into an “explosive” bust when police found RM12,000 worth of firecrackers in a house here during the raid Tuesday night.

Sarawak CID deputy chief ACP Zainuddin Zainal told a news conference Wednesday that a 49-year-old man who was earlier suspected of drug involvement living in the house was arrested in the raid.

He said the suspect was now being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957, which carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.

Zainuddin said the 9.30pm raid was conducted by a team from the state narcotics division led by Insp Fadzrul Shukri Musa, but they found no drugs at the premises.

However, they noticed five big boxes kept underneath a stairway and upon checking, they found the firecrackers, he added. - Bernama
