Poultry farmers given ultimatum

SEREMBAN: Poultry farmers who refused to switch to the closed-house system could risk having their operating licence revoked, said Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

He said this action was necessary to stop flies breeding due to the use of open chicken-rearing system which had affected residents in the vicinity of poultry farms.

"Several big time poultry farmers, particularly in Port Dickson, have ignored the warning. We have given them ample time, five years to change to the closed-house system.

"Despite being slapped with compounds, they failed to change the system," he told reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting here on Wednesday.

He said the government would not compromise with them anymore if they continued to be irresponsible, adding that the state government would review the compound and instead impose stiffer penalties such as revoking licences. - Bernama
