1MDB gives RM100,000 aid to family of deceased Alleycat
KUALA LUMPUR: The 1MDB Foundation will give financial aid amounting to RM100,000 to the family of the late Datuk A. Loganathan, who was a singer with the Alleycats, whose house was damaged by fire on Monday.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the contribution was in appreciation of the singer's deeds in elevating the arts in the country.
He said the contribution was also a gesture to those who had made significant contribution to the country not only as an entertainer but also in terms of national solidarity.
"The late singer's wife must certainly be in grief and had lost some belongings.
"In appreciation of his deeds, 1MDB will contribute RM100,000 to Datin Susan Loganathan and their children," he said in his speech at the 'Karisma Ramadan 2012' gathering at the Putra World Trade Centre here on Wednesday.
The first floor of the two-storey house which the late Loganathan's family was renting in Jalan Azyze Tanjung Bungah, Penang was damaged in a fire on Monday.
Also destroyed in the fire was the record collection of songs sung by Loganathan since the 1980's and various valuables and cash estimated to be worth RM250,000.
At the function tonight, the Prime Minister also handed out Hari Raya contributions to 1,300 children, the handicapped and senior citizens from institutions under the Social Welfare Department.
Najib, who is also Women, Family and Community Development Minister, handed out 'baju raya' to 280 children.
Also present were the ministry's deputy minister Datuk Heng Seai Kie and Secretary-General Datuk Dr Noorul Ainur Mohd Nur. - Bernama
