Discount sees spike in sales of Samsung Galaxy S3

KUALA LUMPUR: Ever since he first heard about it in January, management executive Faizuan Ali had been waiting to get his hands on the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Which was why he described Samsung’s one-day-only 10% discount on the smartphone yesterday as “the perfect opportunity” for him.

“I found this a good chance to buy the phone as I saved about RM200,” said Faizuan, 25, when met at the Samsung Elite Partner store in Low Yat Plaza here.

Samsung Malaysia Electronics had said that the discount was to celebrate Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s inspiring sportsmanship.

Lee won the silver medal at the badminton men’s singles at the London Olympics.

“It is amazing that he got that far, despite an ankle injury,” said Faizuan, who took home the blue Samsung Galaxy S3.

Optometrist Chung Kah Meng, 53, said he was interested to get the gadget based on his brother’s recommendation.

Meanwhile, store manager Beh Chin Kiat said the one-day offer had caused a spike in sales.

“On an average day, we sell 20 units at most, but as of 2pm today we have sold over 40 units,” he said, adding that sales were highest during the lunch hour.
