Subra leads delegation to Bangladesh to study foreign labour model

PUTRAJAYA: Human Resource Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam will lead a delegation to Bangladesh to look at its foreign labour model, as Malaysia continues to consider the possibility of resuming the intake of Bangladeshi workers here.

The cabinet committee on foreign workers and illegal immigrants agreed to send the minister to the South Asian country as the Government would prefer to first study the proposed mechanism before reopening the country's doors to Bangladeshi labourers.

“The Government must study this proposal first as the mechanism to bring in Bangladeshi foreign workers will be made government to government.

“The mechanism must be established first before we allow any hiring of Bangladeshi workers,” the committee said in a statement after a meeting chaired by deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin here on Thursday.
