TNB targets improving on power outage index

By FARIK ZOLKEPLI

KUALA TERENGGANU: Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is confident of achieving a lower rate of power supply disruption this year through many improvements implemented.

TNB chief executive officer Datuk Azman Mohd said they had achieved an under-70 System Average Interruption Distribution Index (SAIDI) nationwide this year and expected to improve on this.

The SAIDI is used to gauge the level of power outage.

"We expect the SAIDI index to be between 50 and 70 this year. Solving the problem of power outage is our main priority," he told pressmen after the TNB Terengganu Hari Raya event here Monday.

He explained the SAIDI was recorded by calculating the frequency and duration of interruptions.

"We have made headway in the last five year by lowering the SAIDI index from three numbers to only two. We are on course to achive an index of 50 by 2015," he added.
