Ministry resolving Sabah, Sarawak worker ban with Singapore govt

SEGAMAT: The Human Resources Ministry is in discussions with the Singapore government to resolve the uncertainty faced by under-35 male natives from Sabah and Sarawak, following the island republic's new ruling on work permits.
Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said the ministry was in discussions with Singapore authorities through its labour attache.
He said the new policy, barring male natives from Sabah and Sarawak who are below 35 years from working in the republic, was a result of agents taking people to work in Singapore with false promises.
Dr Subramaniam also said there were apparently some incidents in Singapore among the Sabahans and Sarawakians that made the authorities unhappy.
"I was told that the new policy is only for those of Sabah and Sarawak origins, so that is a bit tricky.
"We have asked our labour attache to discuss with the Singapore authorities to come to a positive conclusion," he said after a presentation of RM7.56mil in special funds under Budget 2012 to 37 missionary schools from Johor and Malacca by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon here Monday.
