Proposed health professionals' Bill up for public viewing from Oct 1

By FLORENCE A. SAMY

KUALA LUMPUR: The proposed Allied Health Professions Bill is ready and will be available for public viewing next month, Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said.

The draft bill, he said, would be available online at the Ministry's website from Oct 1 until Oct 21.

This, he said, was in line with the new government circular dated April 25, which required all new Acts and amended Acts to be available for public viewing before being passed in Parliament.

"This proposed Act provides for registration and control of practice of 23 types of Allied Health Professionals.

"They can be classified under three main groups, namely clinical group (12 professions), public health (four professions), and laboratory group (seven professions).

"We welcome feedback from professionals as well as the public and all who are concerned with making healthcare in Malaysia of high quality and of world standard," he said in his speech at the Ninth Allied Health Scientific Conference here Tuesday.

There are about 40,000 public and private allied health professionals in the country, he said.

Allied health professionals, he said, were valuable members of the healthcare team and complemented the work of doctors in providing holistic patient-centered care.
