Veteran Penang MCA member dies in road accident

GEORGE TOWN: A veteran Penang MCA member died in a fatal road accident on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway here Tuesday.

Quah Eng Lam (pic), 66, who was the Bukit Bendera MCA division deputy chairman, was riding a motorcycle with a pillion rider when the incident occured about 9.30am.

It is learnt that Quah, who was a TM Net sub-contractor, was on his way to drop a mechanic back to the latter's workshop in Gat Lebuh Presgrave after he had returned Quah's van to the office in Gat Jalan Perangin.

Quah died on the spot after he was run over by a 16-wheeler truck carrying cement.

His body was later sent to the Penang Hospital mortuary for a post mortem while the mechanic, who suffered minor injuries, was also sent to the hospital for treatment.

Quah joined the MCA in the 1970s and has been an active member for more than 40 years.
