Cameron Highlands campers agree not to encroach on disputed land temporarily

KUANTAN: Several Cameron Highlands residents facing a lawsuit from a land developer have agreed not to enter the disputed plot temporarily.
Their lawyer Yudistra Darma Dorai said the plaintiff LTT Development was allowed by the High Court here to enter the land but could not proceed with any bulldozing under the ad interim injunction.
The developer had earlier obtained an ex parte injunction to stop the eight defendants with several more unidentified residents from encroaching or dwelling on the land located in Ulu Telom, Cameron Highlands.
"We have put in an application to set aside the ex parte injunction and to get our own injunction against the plaintiff. The application will be heard on Oct 9," said Yudistra after a hearing before Justice Mariana Yahya in chambers Friday.
The Green Cow residents had set up camp for more than 100 days to prevent the plaintiff from carrying out development work on the land.
They claimed that their homes were in danger of being hit by a landslide due to bulldozing by the developer.
Their spokesman P. Siva, 31, said they were willing to move out if the state government could provide a piece of land for them.
"We are not asking much. A small plot is sufficient," said Siva who showed up with 15 residents at the court.
LTT Development was represented by Malcolm Fernandez.
