PM: BN not yet in comfort zone

PEKAN: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak says Umno and the Barisan Nasional are not yet in the comfort zone in getting the support of voters.

“I can sleep soundly only if there is engagement with every voter before the elections,” he told some 500 delegates of the Pekan Umno division here.

“As long as we are willing to sacrifice and act like a sturdy building, we will see success in the elections,” the Prime Minister said when closing the division's delegates meeting.

He said Umno had achieved much for the country in the past 55 years but the Opposition was still questioning its success.

“Recently, an Opposition leader came to Pekan and said he did not see any development. I wonder where his eyes were,” said Najib, who is also Pekan MP.

He listed a string of projects in the constituency, such as Universiti Malaysia Pahang, a four-star hotel, a community college and the upgrading of the Kuantan-Pekan highway.

“Who says there is no development? Only the blind in heart and vision cannot see it.

“The best medicine is to teach them in the coming elections,” he said.

Najib said he was worried about the future of the Malays and the Muslims should the country come under a different regime.

“I believe those in DAP are not at ease with the position of the Malays and Islam.

“Just ask those who experienced it in Perak and Selangor.

“PKR is weak. With its combination with others, and if DAP wins big, where will the Malays place their hope?” he asked.

He urged members to put aside their self-interests and petty issues for Umno to succeed.

Speaking at another function, Najib said the rural development agenda would not be neglected.

This was reflected in the large allocation for rural development in every national Budget, he said when addressing a Hari Raya gathering organised by Felcra Bhd at Dataran Pekan here.

“It is part of the National Key Results Areas. Besides developing rural infrastructure through Felcra, Felda and Risda, we are also looking into new approaches, such as the agro-politan park projects,” he said.
