Several people arrested for stomping on pictures
KUALA LIPIS: Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein announced the arrests of several individuals who allegedly stomped and urinated on photographs of PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
He said the arrests were made by the police.
“Let the police conduct the investigations. No one will escape the law, whoever they may be,” he told reporters yesterday after opening the Lipis Umno Division delegates meeting, here.
After the police investigation, it would be left to the Attorney-General’s Chambers whether to prosecute them or not, he said.
He also said several people detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) had been released before Aidilfitri last month.
“The release of the remaining detainees is under consideration, after it has been determined that they are no longer a threat to the security of the country,” he said.
The release of the detainees follows the proposed introduction of a new law to replace the repealed ISA. — Bernama
