Najib: Govt and Sarawak must work as one family

SIBU: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the Federal Government understood the need to appreciate Sarawak's aspirations, interests and sensitivities by working together as “one Malaysia and one family”.

The Prime Minister said he was pleased with the support received from Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and the state government within the framework of the Constitution.

“We understand each other. And at same time the Sarawak people understand that by being part of a bigger family and by being part of Malaysia, you stand to gain much more than ever before,” he said during a dinner with Barisan Nasional component party leaders and Sarawak community leaders here.

Najib said the 342 additional Federal projects worth RM2.32bil that had been approved for Sarawak since he took over as prime minister was indicative of the sincerity of the Barisan government.

“I can categorically say on behalf of BN and the chief minister as the state leader that we will continue to deliver for the people of Sarawak,'' he stressed.

Taib earlier pledged to deliver the mandate for the prime minister on behalf of the Sarawak Barisan, stressing that the Sarawak Government wanted to see Najib continue leading the country after the 13th general election.

Taib said the state Barisan was very confident of winning the coming Parliamentary election.

“In the last two to three years, the Opposition talked about capturing the state and the Federal governments because they were going to bring changes.

“By now, the people have realised that the Opposition could not deliver what was promised,'' he added. - Bernama.
