GEORGE TOWN: Starwalk turned 35 on a cool, beautiful Monday morning and for the record-breaking 21,672 participants, it was a walk through history.

The walkers were up at the crack of dawn to take part in the country's premier sporting event. For some, it was for an enjoyable stroll while others took advantage of the walk to explore the George Town heritage enclave.

Besides the traditional landmarks such as Fort Cornwallis, St George's Church, Goddess of Mercy Temple, the route also included for the first time Tan Kongsi, Chew/Lee Jetties, Wisma Yeap Chor Ee, The Whiteaways Arcade, Logan Heritage, Pinang Peranakan Mansion and Masjid Melayu Lebuh Acheh.

Some of the participants were spotted taking photographs as they passed by the Unesco-listed heritage landmarks.

To the relief of the participants and organisers, the sun shone gloriously despite the initial forecast of gloomy weather and rain.

The main sponsors are YES and Genneva Malaysia (platinum), Medispec (gold) and Magnum, 100 Plus, Golden Screen Cinemas, Nikon, Pallas, Milo and BP Healthcare (silver).
