Heart donor’s family in shock


JOHOR BARU: Motorcycle shop owner, Chin Pak Siong, 53, whose son's heart once saved the life of Tee Hui Yi, said his family was shocked over her death.

He found out about Hui Yi's sudden death from her mother Dina Bato Sam Bua at about 11am.

“My heart just dropped the moment Dina told me. I cannot believe that she was no longer alive.

“In disbelief, I turned on the radio and television to find out more but there was no news about her,” he said at his workshop in Kangkar Pulai here yesterday.

Chin said members of his family would go to Batu Pahat and pay their last respects to Hui Yi.

“I treated her like my own child because part of my son was living inside her.

“Her death comes just a week before the fifth death anniversary of my son Yoon Kiong.”

Chin said his family had always been keeping in touch with Hui Yi to find out how she was doing.

“The last time we met was when we drove up to Batu Pahat in March.

“I cannot believe that was the last time that we would meet,” he said, adding that Hui Yi was a cheerful girl.

Hui Yi had to rely on a mechanical heart before undergoing the operation on Oct 15, 2007, at the National Heart Institute.
