Mentally-ill man who murdered his father escapes gallows
ALOR SETAR: A mentally ill man who murdered his father last year escaped the gallows Wednesday.
However, Mohd Adli Saman, 34, who was charged with murdering Saman Sirun, 60, at a house in Kampung Pasir Puteh, Tualak, near Kuala Nerang between 7pm and 7.30pm on Aug 11, 2011, was ordered by Judicial Commissioner Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab to be committed to Hospital Bahagia Tanjung Rambutan.
He would remain at the mental institution at the pleasure of the Sultan of Kedah until pardoned.
In his decision, Mohd Zaki said observations and interviews by psychiatrists with Mohd Adli and his family found he was of unsound mind at the commission of the offence.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Aisyaf Falina Abdullah appeared for the prosecution while Mohd Adli was represented by counsel Ali Munawar Razak. - Bernama
