New-born baby found at mosque

KUALA TERENGGANU: A mosque imam had a shock when he found a new-born baby girl inside the building.

The baby, who is alive and well, was discovered by the imam at Kampung Saujana, Setiu, when he arrived for the Subuh prayers at about 6am yesterday.

Terengganu CID chief Asst Comm K. Manoharan said the baby was wrapped in an orange towel.

“We believe the baby was recently born based on bloodstains found on her. The baby's umbilical cord was still intact,” he said yesterday.

He added that the 3.4kg baby had been sent to Setiu Hospital for a check-up.

“We hope clinics or hospitals which were visited by a patient who had just given birth to report the matter to us as soon as possible.

“The case had been classified under Section 317 of the Penal Code for baby dumping,” he said.
