Home Guards urged to claim special payment

By JOSEPH SIPALAN

KAJANG: Civilian volunteers who signed up to be Home Guards in the fight against communist insurgents are urged to come forward and claim the special RM3,000 payment announced in the 2012 Budget.

ASP Mohd Faizal Razali, from the Police Veterans' Department, said they have so far handed out the payment to over 60,000 volunteers, but pointed out that up to 200,000 civilians had put their lives on the line as Home Guards from 1948 until the unit was disbanded on July 31, 1960.

“They were all volunteers, all civilians, but we cannot deny their contribution to the country,” he said after witnessing the handing over of cheques for the special payment to 30 former Home Guards at the Hulu Langat MCA division office here.
