Najib: Umno general assembly on Nov 27-Dec 1, but can be postponed for polls

By MAZWIN NIK ANIS

KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno general assembly has been fixed for Nov 27-Dec 1 but Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic) maintains this does not neccesarily mean the general election has been pushed to next year.

The Umno president said it was up to Barisan Nasional to decide on the election and the party's general assembly could be postponed to another date if it was called.

"We can just postponed the general assembly or we can go on with it as planned," he said after chairing the Umno supreme council meeting here Thursday.

Asked to respond that the announcement of the general assembly dates has fuelled speculation that general election would be next year, the Prime Minister said: "I like them to speculate (on election)."

He added that party elections would not be held this year but would take place after the general election.

The Umno general assembly will start with the presidential briefing on Nov 27 and the opening of the Youth, Wanita and Puteri wings.

This will be followed by the meetings of the three wings on Nov 28 while the general assembly proper will be held for three days beginning Nov 29.
