Stepmum on trial over girl’s death now

JOHOR BARU: A factory worker escaped the gallows when a High Court here acquitted him of a charge of murdering his three-year-old daughter last January.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Rahimah Abd Majid had earlier told the court that the murder charge against Norafizan Ludin would be retracted after receiving a letter of representation from his lawyers G. K. Sritharan and V. Ramesh last August.

The letter gave details which stated that the 31-year-old was not at the scene of the crime at the time of the offence.

Norafizan was jointly charged with his wife Dewi Nadia Alias, 28, of murdering his daughter Nur Dania Qistina between 6am to 9am at their home in Ulu Tiram on Jan 9.

The murder charge against Dewi Nadia, the victim’s stepmother, was retained. Trial has been set from Oct 23.

It was reported that Nur Dania was pronounced dead at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital after she was taken there by Norafizan and Dewi Nadia for “breathing problems”.

A post-mortem revealed that she had died of internal bleeding due to blunt force trauma.
