Novel way to promote flying experience


PETALING JAYA: Make a paper aeroplane that can stay the longest in the air and stand to win travel tickets and exclusive merchandise from Firefly under the 1Malaysia Paper Airplane Contest (1MPAC) to be held tomorrow.

Firefly is the official sponsor of the event at the National Science Centre's main atrium.

There will be more than RM20,000 worth of prizes up for grabs.

“Participants will win prizes if their paper planes are in the air for the longest time,” Firefly said in a statement.

The contest will begin at 10am.

Registration for primary school pupils will be held from 9am to 10am, secondary school from 10am to 11am while for the open category, it will be held from 2pm to 2.45pm.

Contest entry fee are RM5 for adults and RM3 for primary and secondary school students.

This event is also supported by the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry.

Firefly's CEO Ignatius Ong said the airline aimed to promote the flying experience with Firefly, adding that paper airplane-flying was great to be experienced with family and friends.

“We are delighted to be a part of the efforts to instill innovation and knowledge about engineering and aerodynamics among participants,” he said.

The objective of the 1MPAC is to educate the youth, students and the public on aerodynamics and aeronautical engineering.
