Veteran MIC members pledge support to party

KUALA LUMPUR: A special gathering was held at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple hall where veteran MIC members pledged their continued support and contribution to the party.

Led by former party vice-president Tan Sri K. Kumaran, the veterans spoke about the party's passage over the years since its inception.

“We still can and want to contribute to the party,” said Kumaran.

Former party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said Indians were now divided.

He said this would affect the community's political mileage.

However, he said the time had come for the party to surge ahead.

“We will win,” he said, adding that he wanted the party to be the leader of the Indian community.

Samy Vellu added that he would continue to serve the party throughout his lifetime.

Meanwhile, MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel thanked Kumaran for the event and said it was also a practice in Umno for the current leaders to confer with veteran leaders.

The veteran leaders also read a pledge to support the current and future leaders of the party.

The event was attended by all current and past MIC leaders.
