Hazy conditions in some areas
KUALA LUMPUR: A number of areas in the west coast of the peninsula were affected by hazy weather.
The Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 51 monitoring stations at 7am showed that air quality was moderate in 28 areas and good in 23, said the Environment Department (DOE) in a statement.
(An API reading of between 0-50 indicates good air quality, 51-100 moderate, 101-200 unhealthy, 201-300 very unhealthy and above 301 hazardous).
DOE said the number of hotspots in Sumatera, Indonesia, was down to 302 on Wednesday from 631 the previous day.
However, it said the warm and dry spell in the region until October is expected to affect the air quality.
DOE asked the people not to conduct open burnings and report such cases by calling 999 or 1-800-88-2727.
The open burning prohibition order issued in June remained in force, it added. - Bernama
