Tipper lorry gets stuck on signboard

MALACCA: A lorry driver caused a stir when he continued driving with a tipper which was raised.

The tipper eventually got stuck after hitting a signboard on a sky bridge.

It is learnt that the lorry had been travelling for some 500m from the Menara Taming Sari Tower along Jalan Merdeka before hitting the signboard on the sky bridge connecting Mahkota Parade and Hatten Square at about 11am.

A police spokesman said many motorists had honked at the driver to try and alert him.

“However, he only realised something was wrong after hearing a loud crash. He then got down and was shocked to see the lorry's tipper stuck on the signboard,” he said, adding that it was fortunate the sky bridge was not damaged.

A crane arrived later in the afternoon and managed to release the tipper after more than an hour. The driver, in his 20s, seemed shocked but did not suffer any injury.

The bizarre incident also caused a traffic snarl in the area.

Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Salehhudin Abd Rahman said police were investigating the cause of the incident.
