PETALING JAYA: A father and his son were charged in a Sessions Court here with causing the death of a trader in Seri Kembangan last month after fight about the placing of a table.
Businessman Jaafar Shaari, 50, who was believed to be a "Datuk Seri", and his son Ahmad Jiwari Jaafar, 23, however claimed trial after the charge was read to them before Sessions Judge Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz Friday.
Jaafar and Ahmad Jiwari were jointly charged for causing the death of a trader Azahari Sidek, 44, after a fight at Downtown of the Mines in Seri Kembangan between 3.40am and 5.30am on Aug 13.
They were accused under Section 304(b) of the Penal Code which carries a maximum of 10 years' jail or a fine or both, if convicted.
DPP Siti Aisyah Ab Rashid prosecuted while both were represented by counsel Datuk Abdul Halim Yahya.
The judge granted bail at RM10,000 each pending mention on Oct 23.
On Aug 16, it was reported that police were tracing the whereabouts of a businessman, believed to be a “Datuk Seri”, and his son, to facilitate investigations into the death of the trader on Aug 13.
The trader was killed following a dispute with another trader over an old table which he had placed in front of his shop.
It was reported that the trader's stepbrother said that the neighbouring trader had been unhappy with Azahari's decision to move the table and had brought in a few friends to confront him.
