Six NGOs want action against DAP's Ngeh over tweet on anti-Islam video
IPOH: Six non-governmental organisations (NGOs) held a protest here Friday, calling for action to be taken against Perak DAP chairman Ngeh Koo Ham for his Twitter remark on the anti-Islam film Innocence of Muslims.
A group of protesters, including Perkasa members, gathered outside the Perak DAP office here at 2.30pm, holding placards denouncing Ngeh and shouting "Allahu Akbar" (God is great) before dispersing half an hour later.
They were speaking against Ngeh's tweet "Khairy wants muslim protest against Sam Bacile. For islam or for his political gains? Are muslims wasting too much time and energy on this?" in reference to Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin's statement on the controversial film.
Ngeh later retracted the remark and apologised in a statement on Thursday, saying he never intended to offend Muslims.
Suara Anak Muda Malaysia spokesman Abdul Salim Putra Ahmad Shibi said it was not the first time that DAP politicians had belittled Muslims.
"Alhough he has apologised over the matter, we do not accept it.
"You cannot provoke people only to apologise later and expect everything to be settled," he said.
Abdul Salim also called for DAP to take disciplinary action against Ngeh or even expel him from the party.
"Ngeh isn't even in power and he is already showing disrespect towards other religions.
"He is clearly not fit to become a leader of the people," he said.
