DPM: Education Blueprint to address weaknesses in system
CHINA: Malaysia's National Education Blueprint (2013-2025) was not put into action due a 'crisis' in the education system, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, but because of weaknesses in terms of quality that had been identified.
"There are weaknesses which we have identified and we will address them," he told Malaysian journalists covering his working visit to China.
The plan strives to address weaknesses in quality in the national education system to achieve a major shift under the 13-year plan.
Muhyiddin, who is also education minister, said the national education system was successful in the sense that almost 93% of Malaysians were able to attend school and most of them could read, write and count.
"That is a major achievement in five decades. We find that our system has to match the growth in the developed nations. It's better for us to admit the weaknesses and address them," he said. - Bernama
