By JOSEPH KAOS Jr

SEPANG: The seven Malaysians who swam across the English Channel arrived home to a hero's welcome at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Sunday.

Friends and family members of the 1Malaysia English Channel Unity Swim Expedition team were at KLIA as early as 7am to welcome their heroes.

Even family members of Estino Taniyu, who completed a solo challenge across the English Channel, came all the way from Sabah to greet him at the airport.

Estino, 24, from the Malaysian Royal Navy, became the second Malaysian after Lennard Lee to achieve the feat in the cageless category.

The other expedition team members were part of a relay team of six swimmers who also completed their challenge of swimming across the English Channel on Thursday in 14 hours 30 minutes.

They were Mohd Roslan Mohd Zawawi, as the lead swimmer, Mohd Khairul Faizal Mazli, Mohd Salleh Mahmor, Buranurdin Sali, Sharizal Omar and Mohd Zulfadhli Mahamad.

The expedition was organised by the Malaysian 7 Continents Exploration Club, whose patron is Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
