Audit-General’s Report to be tabled 2 weeks after budget

By MARTIN CARVALHO

KUALA LUMPUR: The annual Auditor-General's Report will be tabled two weeks after the tabling of Budget 2103 in Parliament said Minister in Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Aziz.

"The report is ready but it is not going to be tabled simultaneously as it may take more news than the budget.

"We want the members of Parliament to speak about the budget first as the other report might take the limelight," he told reporters when visiting the refurbished media section in Parliament lobby on Monday.

He said the move, introduced during the tabling last year's budget, was aimed at allowing better focus during debates on the Budget and report respectively.

"We made a similar move last year and it gave more time for Parliamentarians to debate the budget.

"There will ample time to debate the Auditor-General report," he said, adding that the report could further be raised for scrutiny during debates at the council and committee stages.

Last year, the National Feedlot Corporation cattle rearing project in Negri Sembilan was among the issues raised in the Auditor-General's Report, resulting in the project coming under scrutiny.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is scheduled to table the budget Sept 28.
