Two killed in 10 vehicle crash at Ayer Keroh

MALACCA: A runaway lorry caused a 10 vehicle crash that left two people dead and several others injured at the MITC traffic light junction along Jalan Tun Razak in Ayer Keroh here.

The 3.40pm accident involving three lorries, three cars and four motorcycles caused miles-long jam leading to the historic city.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Salehhudin Abd Rahman said the driver of the lorry laden with chicken feed was believed to have lost control of his vehicle which skidded and landed on the opposite side of the road.

He said the lorry rammed into the other vehicles, including a tipper truck and cargo trailer, at the junction.

The lorry driver, identified as R.Chandran Raja Retnam, 47, died on the spot due to his injuries. The accident also killed motorcyclist R.Mukeudan, 62, after his machine was pinned under one of the lorries.

ACP Salehhudin said another seriously injured motorcyclist is now in critical condition at the Malacca Hospital.
