China-Japan conflict should not affect us, says Donald Lim

By YVONNE LIM

KUALA LUMPUR: The economy is not affected by the conflict between China and Japan, Asia's two biggest economies, said Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai.

China and Japan are Malaysia's largest and third largest regional trade partners respectively. "I believe that our businesses with the countries individually will still go on as the conflict is between the two nations, nothing to do with us.

"Nevertheless, of course as a member of the Asean region, we do not want to see our fellow members in conflict and hope that this issue will soon be revolved peacefully," he told reporters here on Wednesday.

Sino-Japanese relations deteriorated sharply this month after Japan bought the East China Sea islands, called Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, from their private owner, sparking anti-Japan protests across China.
